Local information

Montevideo is one of the safest tourist destinations in South America, and locals are known for their politeness and courtesy. The neighborhood of the event, Pocitos-Punta Carretas, is a fashionable seaside neighborhood having all the amenities: shopping malls, movie theaters, restaurants and bars.

Arriving in Montevideo

Montevideo is accessible from all major destinations. A taxi from the airport to the event venue costs around USD 50. The other way round costs around USD 30. There are cheaper options, such as vans, costing around USD 20, and there is even a local bus, costing less than USD 2 (see Airport buses below for details). A taxi drive takes 20 min. to Pocitos, and the bus drive approximately 45 min.

Also, Uber is legal, works perfectly, and the ride to/from the airport costs around USD 20 - 25. There's free wifi in the airport.

Airport buses

Bus number DM1 goes from Carrasco International Airport to Punta Carretas (close to the venue). You can ask for help at the information desk in the airport, to get to the bus stop, just outside the airport.

What weather to expect?

December is a month with temperatures around 25 degrees celcius.

Although we have the beautiful rambla (just behind the venue), the most typical beach towns are at least 50km away from Montevideo (and the best ones at least 100km to the east). If you want to spend some extra days in Uruguay, this is a wonderful option.

Where to eat?

We compiled a map with many different options for lunch, coffee, dinner and parrillada (the local variety of barbecue) around the conference venue.
Take a look.
